Introduction As one of the most revered names in racing history, Sir Anthony Peter McCoy…
McCoy as passionate as ever after 4,000th win
Tony McCoy admits he enjoys racing too much and will not even consider retirement while he is still so in love with the sport. This comes as music to the ears of Unibet racing betting fans!
The 39-year-old became the first jump jockey to ride 4,000 winners aboard Mountain Tunes at Towcester earlier this month.
McCoy won his first race back in 1992 and has gone on to win more than £35million in prize money. He has had 264 winners at Newton Abbot and 29 at Cheltenham.
However, despite all the success and money he has earned over the years, McCoy’s passion for racing has never wavered.
The Northern Irishman admitted he is finally satisfied with what he has achieved, although that does not mean he will be riding off into the sunset any time soon.
“I could never have ridden 4,000 winners without loving my job and if I ever get to the point where I’m not loving it, I’ll stop. But, at this rate, someone might have to tell me when to stop,” he told the Telegraph.
“I hope I’ll be sensible enough to quit on my own terms, but my biggest problem is that I enjoy it too much. If I was ever granted one wish, it would be to come back as another person and be able to start this all over again.”
Despite becoming the most successful jumps jockey in history, McCoy insisted he would continue to work to his maximum.
“There is no place for arrogance or complacency in racing because you are up there one minute and on your backside the next,” he added.
Martin Pipe described his former stable jockey as “absolutely incredible” and said he was “a brilliant role model”.
“He’s so determined to succeed. He’s unparalleled in the history of racing,” Pipe added.
